Now Hiring: Vision Zero Summer Interns

Farm&City is seeking one or more full or part time, paid summer interns focusing on supporting two TxDOT funded grant projects:

  • Safe Streets for Texans
  • Pedestrian Safety Trainings for Law Enforcement

Central to both grants are Vision Zero / Safe System approach trainings. The intern will work with the Farm&City staff to help improve these training opportunities and travel to participate in the trainings as part of our Vision Zero Texas team.

Farm&City is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to high quality urban & rural human habitat in Texas in perpetuity. We change Texas public policy by speaking truth to power, collaborating with anyone who believes that people shouldn’t be dying while driving to the store, and empowering communities to realize a better vision for their future.

Interns will report to the Farm&City Executive Director, and work closely with the rest of our team. The ideal candidate should be really excited – to a contagious extent – about fighting for safer streets and Vision Zero in Texas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work together with the team to workshop and improve the trainings
  • Collect, record and analyze data related to the trainings
  • Be comfortable speaking publicly and engaging in trainings
  • Be curious and interested in transportation issues, especially Vision Zero and safe systems approach to making streets safe for all
  • Be capable of traveling across the state to observe or participate in training sessions (travel costs will be covered by Farm&City)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • College or advanced degree in progress or completed, or appropriate work experience
  • Strong skills with basic office software
  • Be able to work at the Farm&City office in downtown Austin, with the capacity to work independently and occasionally remotely as part of the Farm&City team

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate student in public policy, planning, transportation, or similar field.
  • A passion for sustainability, equity, urbanism, transit, safe streets, and public policy
  • Strong research, writing and editing abilities
  • Familiarity and experience with GIS to generate maps and drafting reports (Depending on candidates, we may hire one intern to focus on GIS / Research and another focused more on training pedagogy for which GIS experience is not needed)
  • Multilingual, with a preference for the ability to speak and write in Spanish, Vietnamese or other leading languages of Texas

COMPENSATION

We are seeking either a single full time intern or two part time interns. In either case, there will be a variable schedule depending on the training across the state, allowing significant flexibility for summer travel. Farm&City does not offer health insurance benefits at this time. This is a salaried position at $18 / hour paid bi-weekly and includes basic tax benefits and a mobility allowance.

LOCATION

This selected candidate will work primarily from our Austin Office, but may work remotely on a limited basis. Applicants outside of Austin are welcome to apply but relocation costs are not covered for this position.
